Bill Nicholson, Owner
Passion for high-quality design and customer service led Bill to dream of starting Nicholson Builders. After receiving a degree in Construction Technologies/Management from OSU/ATI, Bill had the opportunity to gain valuable experience working with top remodelers in the Columbus area. His drive for serving his clients with the highest level of quality and integrity, prompted him to launch out on his own. As the business has grown, Bill’s spirit of dedication to exceptional service and attention to detail continue to permeate every facet of the company. His desire to forge lasting relationships with his clients has been evidenced by the staggering number of past clients who have requested Bill for new projects year after year.
Bill enjoys spending most of his free time with his family. His wife and children are regular visitors and beloved faces at Nicholson Builders.

Mike Fought, President
One of our company’s founders, Mike joined forces with Bill to create Nicholson Builders in 2003. As a part of his blue collar upbringing in Fremont, he developed an affinity for cars, aircraft and all things mechanical. This led him to earn an Aerospace Engineering degree from The Ohio State University. Mike’s hallmarks are his calm demeanor and thoughtfulness, which serve him well in executing projects in an orderly and well thought out way. You are likely to encounter Mike enjoying time backpacking in the mountains or up in the air flying.

Jeremy Little - Design Consultant - LEED AP
Jeremy is an architect, designer and salesman with over 18 years in the industry. He has an undergraduate degree in Architecture from Miami University and a Masters in Architecture from the University of Maryland. He has “a passion for creating high quality, beautiful, and functional modern environments”, which he can attest to with a beautiful collection of very unique completed projects. His professional life converges with his personal pursuits of designing, drawing and painting. In addition Jeremy writes music, plays (and builds) guitars and enjoys hiking, mountain biking and hanging out with his wife of 16 years and their three children.

Britain Meyers - Design Consultant
Britain moved to the Columbus area 22 years ago to be with his lovely wife. He began installing commercial kitchens in his father’s business before moving into residential construction where he has worked as a finish carpenter, a draftsman and a project manager. Now after 25 years in the industry he puts his experience and creative expertise to practice bringing projects to life with our clients. Britain is the proud father of no less than seven children and still manages to make time to read for pleasure and inspiration.

Doug Lugar - Design Consultant - CKBD, CLIPP
Doug first received a B.A. in biology with a chemistry minor from Case Western Reserve University and has since then earned certifications from the NKBA in kitchen and bathroom design and is a certified living in place professional (CLIPP). He has been involved with the industry for more than 30 years. Doug’s area of interest and expertise is in designing accessible, comfortable and safe solutions that meet our clients’ needs by “providing information that will allow our clients to make the best decisions for themselves and their home”. Doug and his wife of 38 years reside in Utica and have two children and three grandchildren. Doug makes time for family, woodworking and sports.

John Nicholson - Registered Architect
Many of our wonderful projects have been brought to life through John's creative efforts. John works with our clients to create beautiful designs that add to both the quality and efficiency of their lives. He appreciates finding those special moments for "gems" to be added to the formwork of the strong base design. John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from the Ohio State University and a Masters in Architecture from Clemson University. Among his numerous and varied interests are playing original music with his band, skiing, dirt biking, traveling and being with family - especially his four children, one stepchild and amazing wife.

Prior to his Design Consulting career, Josh started as a Carpenter for us in 2021 and his passion for the industry quickly grew. Josh is a proud Powell, Ohio native. In his free time, he can be found taking nature walks, spending time with his wife and indulging in his love for coffee.

Erik Maxwell - Architectural Design Leader
Erik fell into construction at a young age working for his dad's construction company. While he (enjoys) working with his hands, his calling is more creative. Most of his assignments include designing aspects of building. Erik likes knowing his efforts set our projects on a trajectory for success and longevity. He enjoys watching and playing sports in his free time.

Amy Statler - Interior Design Manager - CKD
Amy Statler has worked with Nicholson Builders as a designer since the founding of the company. Amy was naturally drawn into her career by watching her father, an architect, design and draft projects while sitting next to him as a little girl. Amy has a degree in Interior Design from Bowling Green State University and has worked as an interior designer for over 25 years. Amy loves to listen closely to the needs and desires of a client then bring life to their vision. Her goal is to create spaces that clients will smile about and enjoy for years after it is complete. When she’s not working on designs at Nicholson, Amy enjoys spending time with her husband and chocolate lab.

Gina came to us in 2023 with a degree in Interior Design from Bowling Green State University. She comes from a small village in Ohio and fell in love with the city of Columbus! In her free time she enjoys perusing vintage markets with her husband, staying active in her church, caring for all her plants, and loving on her 2 cats and dog that she rescued.

Jessie Garner - Architectural Designer I
Originally from Grandview, this lifelong Columbus resident uses her Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design to produce many of our drawings and conceptual renderings. Jessie and her husband love to travel and collect interesting things like fossils and antiques. She also likes to spend time outdoors and with her family, friends, and church. She has a passion for interior architecture and design which she skillfully displays with us.

John Strangis - Architectural Designer II
Born in Pittsburgh, but raised in Columbus, John brings a creative side to our Architectural Team. John came to Nicholson Builders with his time in the industry dating back to 2012 when he graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Architecture. John’s passion in the industry lies in custom residential design. His open-minded attitude helps break his creative thinking out of the many constraints within the industry to bring something unique to our clients. Outside of work, John holds a passion for music, both in listening and playing the drums. A father to one, he also makes time for exercise, travel, sports, and renovating his home in Pickerington. Always preferring to be hands on and learning, John has been an incredible asset to our team!

Leslie Brune - Interior Designer
Leslie joined NBI in 2018, took some time off through 2022 and joined us again mid 2023! She is a proud wife and mother to 4 grown children and has 2 granddaughters. While Leslie went to school for elementary education, she discovered later in life her true passion is art and design. In her free time, Leslie pours herself into her passion and can be found doing all things arts & crafts, gardening and educating herself on wellness. Leslie’s joy behind her position as a designer is listening to a clients needs, then ticking all their boxes while also making it beautiful. Nothing is more rewarding to her than hearing a client say they love their finished project! We are so grateful for Leslie’s natural eye for design and passion for her clients.

Lindsay Marean - Interior Designer
Lindsay worked as an intern with us in 2020 while studying Interior Design at The Ohio State University and minoring in fine arts. After graduation she spent time working at a commercial firm designing corporate offices before joining us in 2023 as a residential designer! Design is something she enjoys outside of work. In college she designed her parents’ kitchen remodel, and she can usually be found refinishing furniture, painting artwork, or figuring out a new project to work on in her or her loved one’s homes. Lindsay is passionate about including personal and thoughtful details in everything she creates. In her free time, she can be found with her husband playing with their mini dachshund, Betty, watching OSU footballs games, traveling and visiting farmer’s markets.

Meridyth grew up in Cincinnati, graduated from Miami University with a B.A. in Interior Design, and moved to Columbus after graduation. She is happily married with a 5-year-old daughter who is full of adventure and a Dalmatian named Pongo. Meridyth’s passion here at Nicholson is to see designs come to life after all the planning and thinking. Seeing a client’s vision realized is incredibly rewarding to her. In her free time, she loves spending time with her family, practicing yoga, gardening, and running her own small business named Dosie’s Posies – handmade paper flowers and crafts!

Stefania came to us eager to expand her skills over the 2023 summer as an intern prior to graduating in the following year. In 2024 she graduated from Columbus College of Art & Design with a degree in Interior Architecture & Design and joined our Team! Her drive and natural abilities in the architecture realm makes her a valuable asset here in the office. In her free time, Stefania enjoys running, hiking, painting and enjoying time with her family of 7 in which she is the oldest of 5!

Karen Stone - Office Leader
The first face you are likely to encounter upon visiting our office is that of Karen Stone. She has been supporting our team for 10 years. “I love supporting the creative and talented individuals who help our clients’ home renovation dreams come true.” says Karen. Of favorite past times reading is at the top, as well as hiking over hill and dale with family. She has been married for 30 years to husband Brian with whom she enjoys her two adult children. We would be lost without Karen’s hardwork!

Likely the first voice you hear when calling into our office, Madison will be the one you first share your remodeling dreams to. Since 2021, she has not only been operating as our Office Administrator, but also our busy Small Projects & Handyman Division Admin. In 2023 she took on our Marketing and Social Media Management. Since childhood, Madison has had a passion for all things residential design. In elementary school she would spend her weekends creating design boards for her parents, trying to sell them on a remodel. A self-proclaimed homebody, Madison loves long walks with her dog, Rita, cooking and baking, running, antiquing, all things 60’s & 70’s and spending time with her husband renovating their historic home in Springfield. Madison is passionate about personalized care and serving our clients with hospitality!

Jenny Devantier - Accountant
A fixture at Nicholson Builders from nearly the beginning, Jen works as our company accountant. She is a joy to have in the office and does a fantastic job of keeping our books in order. Jen graduated from Wittenberg University before meeting her husband and raising three kids. When not working with our numbers she likes to travel, read and enjoy nature and her family.

Chadwick Miller - Estimator
An integral part in the creation of our projects is an accurate forecast of the costs involved. This is Chad’s area of expertise, earned through 17 years in the construction industry. He pulls from his experience in the field, and as a bookkeeper for a lumber yard and storage shed facility. Chad is guided by his faith in God and his integrity and is always willing to help others. He comes from an Amish background in Sugarcreek, OH and stays busy spending time with his wife and his two sons.

Aaron was born in Connecticut, but moved to Newark, Ohio when he was a child. He graduated from Central Ohio Technical College with an Associate of Arts Degree. He joined the NBI Family in the spring of 2024. Outside of work, Aaron can be found spending time with his wife, their 2 Siberian Huskies, their daughter and soon-to-be second daughter who is due to arrive in the summer of 2024! Aaron is a proud girl dad, bourbon taster and lover of sports. He couches a youth travel baseball team, and plays taxi toting his daughter to and from her various sporting activities.

Nathan Major - Production Leader
Nathan was recruited early in the life of Nicholson Builders for his great nature and commitment to quality in all he does. The youngest of three brothers, Nathan started his first construction job right out of high school and married his high school sweetheart at 20, with whom he has two daughters. His passions in the industry include “any complex framing details from radiused walls to installing new beams in old homes”. From a project management standpoint Nathan is most energized “when the jobsite is hopping with activity and the number of carpenters and tradesmen is just short of amounting to chaos”. He serves to advise our team of project managers and generally strives to elevate our company, our craftsmen and our industry to a higher standard. Nathan’s personal pursuits include time with family, church, hiking, camping and hunting.

David Haugh - Production Consultant
Dave has worked in the construction and remodeling field for 40 plus years, holding a number of different positions on our production team. Dave got his start by purchasing campus area houses at Ohio State, renovating and renting them out while he was a student there. He is a person that can fix just about anything that breaks. He currently spends his free time restoring and driving unique old cars. Dave is also active in his local church enjoying his opportunity to serve in a variety of areas.

Andrew Armstrong - Project Manager
Andrew joined our carpentry team in 2022 with 6 years of experience and a passion for rough framing. At the end of 2023 he was promoted to Project Management! Born and raised in Sunbury and a graduate of Westerville South High School, he moved onto Columbus State Community College but decided to pursue trade work instead. In his free time he enjoys listening to music, and spending time outdoors hiking and backpacking. Something you’d never guess about Andrew is he used to breakdance!

Joe has spent some time updating the look of our Nicholson Builders offices, but can generally be found out improving our clients’ homes. A graduate of Capital University, Joe has served 20 years in the building industry and especially likes to tackle challenging installations. In his own time Joe is raising three beautiful daughters with his lovely wife and supports the Columbus Crew!

Jonathan Keith - Project Manager
Johnathan moved to Ohio from Evergreen, Colorado where he was the owner of a high end remodeling company. While there, he also worked as a firefighter and EMT for 12 years. Johnathan brings to our team over 28 years of experience in our industry. He enjoys spending time with his two wonderful young adult children and exploring around Columbus. A fun fact about Johnathan is that he had an opportunity to train for the Olympics in wrestling.

Nathan Gordon - Carpenter
Nathan joined us in the Spring of 2024 with an extensive background in the industry. For nearly 30 years Nathan has been active in his career starting at age 17 when he built houses from the ground up. A year and a half later at just 18 years old he started his own construction business that he owned and operated for 17 years. Nathan has carpentry experience spanning the country-He has worked in Ohio, Michigan, Kansas, Colorado and New Mexico, and even helped train volunteers for Habitat for Humanity. He is a man of faith who is happiest when helping others with his God given gifts. When not working, Nathan is a proud husband and father to 3 adult children. A self proclaimed geek, he is also a movie buff and the king of one liners.

Roger brings his 20 years of construction experience to our team of carpenters. He loves the process of bringing clients’ dreams to life, knowing that his work will endure for many years to come. When he’s not working with wood for our clients he can be found doing it on his own time and generally appreciates time outdoors. As testament to our clever field personnel, Roger graduated high school as a junior back in the day!

Ryan joined Nicholson Builders in 2023 with over 30 years in the construction industry and has worn many hats within it. His passion for the industry began as a child looking up to his mother who worked as a tile installer for over 30 years. In his free time he enjoys bowling, OSU football and riding his motorcycle.

Shawn Moore - Project Manager
Shawn joined Nicholson Builders after several years of a great subcontractor relationship. He applies his ability to develop new and innovative ways to efficiently produce high quality products that will be enjoyed for years to come. He finished his last two years of high school at the Southwest Career Center studying architectural CAD/CAM drafting and has accrued 26 years of construction experience. “Never stop learning!” He is passionate about woodworking and hunting. Shawn is married and raising three girls and a son.

Tim has built some of our largest and most complex projects. Tim enjoys the process of thinking through and coming up with the best solutions as he brings unique projects together. He has a degree in geology and worked in the mining industry after graduating college. For fun Tim enjoys spending time at Lakeside, restoring wooden boats and cheering on the Blue Jackets.

Timothy, or TJ, has a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from the Ohio State University and likes to stay active walking, running, hiking and working. TJ enjoys being able to work with his hands, to problem solve and to see the end results of his efforts. He considers one of the rewards of being a Project Manager is that he is able to have a visible positive impact on our clients’ lives. Timothy has been married for four years (as of 2019) and uses his free time to do more woodworking, study the bible and exercise. He is in the unique position of having a twin brother with a different birthday!

Todd is certainly one of our beloved project managers who has spent his fair share of time honing his craft on his way to overseeing our complex projects. He combines his 41 years of construction experience with a commitment to high standards to achieve amazing results. Todd has been a valued fixture at Nicholson Builders for many years now. He has two adult children with whom he enjoys dogs and being in the great outdoors.

Clifton grew up on a farm in Plain City as the third of six children. After high school, he worked as a welder for nearly a decade. In 2018, he took a break to hike the Appalachian Trail with his brother, completing the journey in about six months. Upon his return, he developed a passion for the remodeling industry, working for various companies and dedicating time to improving his own home. In his free time, Clifton enjoys spending time with his wife and two young boys, cooking, watching sports, and being outdoors, whether fishing or hiking.

Craig’s favorite part of a project is when the home owners start to really see the progress of the project and their excitement grows! He has been in the building trades his entire adult life and continues to learn new things daily. Craig’s family is very important to him and his wish is to be able to do more for his elderly parents. His past times include following Nascar racing, antiques and remodeling his own house.

Elijah was born and raised in Licking County, Ohio. He later moved to Kentucky to do mission work, and later returned to Ohio to get married. In his free time, he can be found spending time with loved ones, learning about history and loves a good hike or sitting around the fire.

Evan is a contributor to our team of carpenters. He is a graduate of the Delaware Area Career Center where he studied Construction Technologies and can claim over four years of experience. At work he really likes framing projects and outside of work enjoys photography, hunting and playing guitar.

Jay joined NBI in the fall of 2023 with 10 years of varying customer service and sales experience in retail and corporate settings. He is a happy husband and soon-to-be father in 2024! He resides with his wife in Hilliard, and in his free time can be found renovating his 1970 RV, camping, kayaking and visiting National Parks where he has had multiple close encounters with bears! We are excited to see where Jay goes in the industry!

Jax joined us for the summer of 2024 to expand his interest in the building industry. He grew up in Worthington, attended Worthington Christian and has a passion to work with his hands. Following working as a farm hand for Local Roots in Powell, Ohio for two years, he thought he would explore our industry. We can’t wait to see Jax expand his skills!

Lance Ewald - Electrician
One of our longer serving guys in the field, Lance has proven himself an invaluable craftsman with countless projects displaying his work. While he has made his largest contributions as a master tile setter, Lance is proficient in many areas of remodeling including carpentry and mechanical work. Aside from his remodeling talents, Lance is known to add life to a jobsite and is well known for his extensively modified diesel truck. He can also be found remodeling his own home and has a lesser known passion for gardening.

Brand new to the industry, Lucas joined us in the fall of 2024 with a passion to dive into the industry! Lucas is happily married and together they share a son & daughter. In his free time he can be found hunting, fishing, painting, woodworking and working on his family’s home. We can’t wait to see where Lucas’ career takes him!

Patrick, originally from Woodsfield, Ohio, moved to Columbus in 2021 and now lives in Lewis Center with his girlfriend, daughter, two Australian Shepherds, and cats. With over five years of industry experience, he is passionate about delivering projects that clients truly appreciate and enjoys tackling complex challenges. In his free time, Patrick loves playing billiards, creating architectural renderings, trying to win over his girlfriend’s cats, and, most of all, making those around him laugh.

Ryan is an Upper Arlington native and Worthington Christian graduate. A proud man of faith, he has devoted much of his adult years traveling in and out of the country to Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic working with a mission organization study abroad program. He has now settled back into Columbus enjoying time with his family, girlfriend, church and our team here at Nicholson Builders as of 2022. New to the industry, Ryan has been an eager team member doing his best to absorb all the knowledge he can. He says there is nothing more satisfying than looking at a finished job and knowing you were a part of it.

Rich discovered his passion for remodeling 25 years ago with the purchase of a dilapidated 1875 brick farmhouse. Since that time he has never ceased studying and honing his skills in carpentry, design and all things construction related. He has been with the Nicholson Builders team since 2009. Outside of work, he is a lover of live music, hiking, kayaking and spending time with his 3 kids, his wife, Anne, and their chocolate lab, Sookie.

Tony is an expert electrician. For 20 years he worked in his family’s electrical business, before running his own business for another 20 years. He was our go-to for our jobs before ultimately deciding to join our team in 2023! In Tony’s free time he can be found spending time outdoors, studying American history and spending time with his grandkids. We feel so fortunate to have Tony’s knowledge and expertise apart of our team.

Nick Maupin - Tile Specialist
Nick grew up locally in Columbus and went to school in Grandview Heights. He’s been a Tile Specialist for over two years and has grown to have a great passion for mastering the craft and trying to provide the best possible work for our clients. He loves spending time with his family, hunting and fishing, and watching football in the fall. One thing that no one would guess is that he still watches Disney Channel movies from the 90’s. He thinks they are pure classics.

Our team uniquely matches the flexibility to complete smaller projects with the same resources of our award winning design build team. We assist clients with everything between changing hard to reach light bulbs to minor kitchen and bathroom updates.
Bryan Copley - Small Projects Sales Lead
Our Small Projects and Handyman Division was created in no small part with the help of Bryan Copley. Originally from Reynoldsburg, Bryan has enjoyed 30 years in the building and remodeling industry with experience in cabinetry and casework, finish carpentry and more. With his addition to our team we are able to serve our clients with timely skilled services in repairing and remodeling. Outside of work, Bryan is raising two kids and spending time with his wife. Bryan recently build a house for his own family and enjoys making time for camping, hiking, running, and enjoying God’s creation.

Paul Batchelder - Project Coordinator
Our Small Projects / Handyman Division runs smoothly in part due to Paul’s efforts. He brings 17 years of construction experience to the table and has been instrumental in the success of this growing part of our business. Paul, who is an accomplished drummer, and his wife of four years enjoy listening to and playing music. They also try to get to the mountains when they aren’t remodeling their own home. Paul is joined by his twin brother, Peter, at Nicholson Builders but Paul is clearly the better looking of the two.

Dan came to us in 2023 with high-end remodeling experience dating back to 2021. His favorite categories of work in remodeling are framing, mechanicals, and finishing drywall. He is passionate about being apart of a team and constantly meeting new people. He is one of 9 children with his connections to central Ohio dating back many generations. Dan and his wife reside in Worthington with their two young sons. Prior to working in remodeling, Dan worked in full time church ministry, directing faith formation programs, In his free time he enjoys fishing, playing basketball and studying history.

From Irwin, OH, Al possesses a wealth of construction knowledge which he is known to deliver with a smile and a friendly word! His experience comes from a career spent in construction and facilities maintenance. He is a graduate of Rosedale Bible College and Cedarville University. Al and wife of 33 years, Alma, have three married kids and three grandkids. When not at work, Al enjoys family activities, camping and watching sports.

Jace Weber - Technician
Jace joined our Team in 2024 with a zest to learn about the construction industry as a beginner. He is originally from Atmore, Alabama but has resided in Central Ohio the last 4 years. He received his Associates in Biblical Studies from Rosedale Bible College, and is currently working on his Bachelors in Philosophy at The Ohio State University. Prior to diving into the remodeling industry, he worked in vinyl graphics for signs and cars. In his free time, he can be found spending time with friends and playing the cello and disc golf!

James Yoder - Project Leader
James comes to us from Rosedale, Ohio. He began working in the industry in 2016 working with hardwood flooring, but joined our team in 2022 seeking a change of pace and new set of skills. Woodworking is his passion in the field and we’re looking forward to the techniques he will learn here at Nicholson Builders. James is the youngest of 3 and loves spending time with them, their spouses, his parents and his wife. He also enjoys outdoor activities, hiking, shooting, sports, and riding and working on his motorcycle.

Josiah grew up in Mount Vernon, Ohio and was homeschooled through high school. He earned his BA in Biblical studies and is happily married with three kids. Bow hunting white tails every fall is his passion. Nicholson is the 4th contractor he's worked for. He has experience in residential remodeling, masonry, pole-barns and post-frame buildings

Luca Gingerich - Technician
Luca grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, but in 2019 moved to Bow, Washington where he gained 3 years of industry experience working for his family’s shed business as a framer and salesman. Shortly after, he relocated to Ohio to attend Rosedale Bible College for 2 years and has stayed ever since! Luca is a lover of photography, the outdoors, ocean air and his 2 Pembroke Welsh Corgis.

Wayne McCarty - Project Leader
Wayne joined our team in 2022 with experience in the exterior remodeling industry. Wayne is a veteran and after spending his time in the Armed Forces he spent 6 years laying patios. In his free time he enjoys spending time outdoors kayaking, rock wall climbing, swimming, hiking, traveling and backpacking. 11 years ago Wayne broke both his legs and spent the following year relearning to walk after 11 surgeries! We are grateful to have him well and applying his skills here at Nicholson Builders!

William has lived in Columbus his entire life, but has spent much time venturing out on excursions of various sorts. He likes to backpack, ski, mountain bike, scuba dive and study wilderness medicine and has thus far hiked 700 miles of the Appalachian Trail. William studied Ecotourism and Adventure at Hocking College. William’s passion in the industry is in working with wood and knowing the many varieties and their uses.

Gene Pirko, Division Manager
Gene is leading the expansion of our Commercial Division! Upon joining us in mid 2023, he came with ample experience. He started his career inn residential construction working with several of the area developers. He later brought his experience creating aesthetic interiors and functional use of space to larger commercial properties. Gene has led renovation and construction of local restaurants, breweries, boutiques, office redesigns and senior living facilities. Outside of work, he enjoys tennis, golf and spending time with his friends and family. We are so grateful for Gene and his expertise!
